Sunday at the Cemetery .....

On Sunday, the Kiddo and I visited the Lexington Cemetery. We had visited it before a few years ago in the winter. Winter does not do this place justice. Springtime here is absolutely gorgeous!

Most of the roads in the cemetery were lined with beautiful flowering trees like the ones above. I can not even begin to describe the smell of the place. It was awesome and sweet.

All of the grounds were carpeted in these wildflowers. Beautiful.

The dogwoods are all in bloom. Growing up in North Carolina, my elementary school was located directly across from a cemetery, and I remember the white dogwoods. I didn't know they came in pink and coral.

There a beautiful ponds and fountains. And there were some visitors from the north there.

There is a sizable military section in this cemetery.

This one is definitely remembered.

After our visit to the dead, we went visit some new babies.

And had lunch at Jimmy John's, which was....

I loved you too much.....

So, my 10-year-old Echo has sprung a leak in the trunk. I have been apparently growing black mold in there for a while. Nice.

I like my car. It has served me well, never given me any problems, and it gets great gas mileage even all these years later. I have a tendency to live in my car. I get the mail from the post office, it goes in the door pockets. There were way too many empty water bottles to mention. I had fabric and sewing supplies, a calculator (?), 3 books, a pair of flip-flops from when we moved (last July!), a bottle of shampoo, 2 hats, a pair of gloves and a scarf. That was in the interior. Sad, I know.

In trying to remedy the leak situation, I cleaned out my trunk (which was for the most part empty), and came across this:

The key to my brand new, 2002 green, VW Beetle. I got it as a lease, and the dealership worked every which way from Sunday, to make this deal happen, even going so far as to pay my first two months payments. I loved, Loved, LOVED that car. Too much, and therefor it had to be taken away.

I babied that car like you would not believe. I washed it every week. It got to be parked inside the gate off the street, locked inside the chain link fence. It had car seat covers, special floor mats, and a steering wheel cover. I put a new flower in its vase every 3 days. I think my favorite thing about that car, besides its gorgeous red and blue dash display, was the 6-disc cd changer. LOVED that car.

On the Sunday before Labor Day, 2002, after owning it for only 5 weeks, my car met its doom, in the form of a giant, white, evil SUV. Giant evil SUV ran me off the road, my car went into the median and was totalled. Fortunately, my son and I, who were on our way to see my mother, were not seriously hurt, and the car took all of the brunt of the accident. But, when the firefighters arrived, I was crying so hard, and all I kept saying was, "Look, it only has 1054 miles on it. I just got it. My husband is going to kill me."

So, when I went to the body shop to pick up all of my stuff from the car, I must have thrown the key into the roadside emergency bag, which moved into my current car. The buttons still work on it.

Ten years later, and that pain is still with me. I am convinced that because I loved that car too much, I had to lose it. Sadness.

March Photo A Day Challenge

Wow am I ever late in getting this thing going. I have been taking my photos but have not had the chance to post any. So here goes, half a month at one time.

The March Photo A Day Challenge brought to you by Fat Mum Slim.

Day 1: UP

This is the ceiling of the Kentucky Theater, near the concession stand.

Day 2: Fruit

The exotic fruits selection at the local Kroger. Funny, these seems so expensive here. This is like everyday staples in Miami.

Day 3: My Neighborhood

Not exactly my neighborhood. But, it was either "borrow" someone else's neighborhood, or get a picture of the back of a Best Buy.

Day 4: Bedside

My bedside is my dresser. I love this dresser. It is vintage, from the 60's, solid wood, and cost all of $15.00. On it: two books (The Happiness Project and About A Boy), a local guide to events from the chamber of commerce, a local map, a statue of a mouse sitting on cheese reading a book, a Buddha, a photo of my grandmother in her nursing uniform, my wedding photo, hand lotion, eye drops, Marc Jacobs Daisy, two journals, and my clock.

Oh, and check out my new rain boots. And those are magazines under it.

Day 5: A smile

For this one you get two smiles, courtesy of me and the Kiddo.

Day 6: 5:00 PM

This would be the exact moment the Kiddo got killed in Skyrim. I rented it for him, and he is now in love. He says it is his new Zelda.

Day 7: Something I Wore

This is what I wore to go to see "The Artist" with the husbeast. He did go with me, after all. It was a great time.

Day 8: Window

This particular prompt was a fun one. Looking for a good window had me taking photos all over downtown. But, it was when we were on our way home, that I looked over and saw this, that I totally had to make a u-turn to get this photo.

Yes, that is Zack Galifinakis in the window.

Day 9: Red

And old red building, near downtown. I love the color of this building.

Day 10: Loud

This may be a little bit posed, but I can't think of anything louder than when the husbeast loses for the umpteenth time at Zuma. He has been stuck on the last level for months & months. And he yells at it so frequently, my dog comes running to me whenever she hears him turn on the computer.

Day 11: Someone I spoke with today

This is my aunt, Glo. She is in Miami. I miss her so, so much.

Day 12: Fork

That's Mister Fork to you.

Day13: A Sign

Yesterday the husbeast and I went on a solo driving adventure. We came upon a little side road that meandered down next to a creek. This was the sign that was there. There will be other photos to follow about this place.

Day 14: Clouds

This was from this morning's sky. I am loving this weather. This weather is like March in Miami. So, I can only imagine what Miami must be like right now.

There, all caught up.

What to do with a beautiful 5 day stretch....

If you plan it, it will happen.....

Well, first there will be sleeping. Until at least 1 pm. (That is my usual wake up time on my first day off of work.) Then to Target to purchase a table for our patio for dining al fresco for the next 6 months. Yay!!!

I think tonight I will go see "The Artist" downtown at the old Kentucky Theater.

I can't think of a more appropriate setting in which to watch this particular film. The theater was originally opened in 1922, and sits right on Main Street.

It is old and charming, and may be getting a little frayed around the edges. But that is what I love about it.

And look at this concession stand:

(all photos from the kentucky theater)

Hopefully, the husbeast will like to join me, but if not, I'm going anyway. Not really his scene. But, maybe, I can entice him with cake and tea from the Coffee Times Coffee House.

Saturday will be sunshine and softball at UK. The Wildcats are taking on the Crimson Tide. In Miami, I loved to attend softball games at the University where I used to work. A spring game early in the season is the best. The weather is perfect, the team is fresh, and the spirits are high. And I may be able to get rid of the pasty color that has overtaken my once tannish self. It will be hard rooting for a new team, but since I have no allegiance to any one team yet, (I don't care if they do write my paychecks) it will be a no stress day at the ball park.

Sunday, after I go explore some local spirituallity, I will spend the rest of the day with my kiddo. Oh, and a class here at work that night. :P

Well, that takes care of three days. What to do with the other two......

The possibilities are endless. I do know that I have a lot of making up to do with my March photo challenge. Yikes, 9 days behind.

Photo a day update.....

Day 23: Shoes

I love Chucks!!! At one time I used to have 15 different pairs of hi and lo tops. Around here they are really in to TOMS, but my heart will always belong to the basic low top sneaker.

Day 24: Inside my bathroom cabinet

Apparently, pain and sinus problems are a huge problem in my house. And there are my moisturizers and myriad hair products. Pretty basic stuff. Alcohol, peroxide, Band-aids, etc.

Day 25: Green

Day 26: Night

This is from the other night. What a frickin' hard picture to take. It is the moon with Venus above and Jupiter below. The shutter had to stay open so long to get the light that most of my attempts at this picture looked like this:

Every breath, tremble, speaking, whatever moved the camera around. Ugh. Need a tripod.

Day 27: Something I ate

OMG!! Best burgers anywhere. I love 5 Guys. Their burgers are so consistently good.

Day 28: Money

Just happened to get my Kentucky tax return. Yay!

I can't believe that February is coming to a close already. Time just seems to fly by.

Day 29: Something I am listening to

Instead of posting a picture of my MP3 player, I will leave you with a video for one of my favorite songs on the radio at the moment...

Because, yes, I am 16 years old. Why do you ask?

Photo a day challenge update

Photo challenge updates first.

Day 18: Drink

This is my drug of choice. At work, I drink two of these a night. When not at work, I usually only drink soda while I am out. At home it is green tea or water. But there is nothing quite as good as a cold soda. Mmmmm.

Day 19: Something I hate to do

Cooking and laundry. Ugh! Hate to do both of those things. I think the cooking thing is just because I am the only one who does it in my house. It gets tedious day after day. Laundry, just because we don't have a washer/dryer in our apartment, which means we can't just toss a load in now and again. It is a weekly dragging everything across the complex chore. :P

Day 20, Handwriting

I shan't subject you to the chicken scratch that is my own handwriting. Instead, I present my husbeast's super neat writing. I found that after I became a nurse, my handwriting worsened markedly. I was writing so much on so many patients that it got terrible. Now I understand physicians' scrawl, and why it is like that. Now that most of my 'writing' is done via computer, it is not getting any better.

Day 21: A favorite photo of myself

This is me in kindergarten. After this picture was taken we all got to get pony rides. Now, I have a motto in life, and it hold's true until this day: Whatever stupid that is going to happen, it is going to happen to me.

When it was my turn for the pony ride, the put me up on the pony, and no one was holding his reins, and the dang horse took of running with me on the back. I held on for dear life to his mane, because that is all I had to hold onto.

Still, I love this picture. It marks a time before my life underwent a terrible upheaval.

I am giving tomorrow's prompt today, as I will be returning to work, and expect to be busy.

Day 22: Where I work

I have posted actual photos of my workplace, but this is where I work. While I love working with the babies, I am beginning to feel restless. This happens to me very often since I became a nurse. Right around 7-8 months working at a location, I start to get itchy for a new place or specialty. I begin to feel less challenged. And, to be honest, bored. I think it is time for me to start looking elsewhere in the hospital for a new specialty, or maybe return to working in mother/baby. We shall see.
