Photo a day update.....

Day 23: Shoes

I love Chucks!!! At one time I used to have 15 different pairs of hi and lo tops. Around here they are really in to TOMS, but my heart will always belong to the basic low top sneaker.

Day 24: Inside my bathroom cabinet

Apparently, pain and sinus problems are a huge problem in my house. And there are my moisturizers and myriad hair products. Pretty basic stuff. Alcohol, peroxide, Band-aids, etc.

Day 25: Green

Day 26: Night

This is from the other night. What a frickin' hard picture to take. It is the moon with Venus above and Jupiter below. The shutter had to stay open so long to get the light that most of my attempts at this picture looked like this:

Every breath, tremble, speaking, whatever moved the camera around. Ugh. Need a tripod.

Day 27: Something I ate

OMG!! Best burgers anywhere. I love 5 Guys. Their burgers are so consistently good.

Day 28: Money

Just happened to get my Kentucky tax return. Yay!

I can't believe that February is coming to a close already. Time just seems to fly by.

Day 29: Something I am listening to

Instead of posting a picture of my MP3 player, I will leave you with a video for one of my favorite songs on the radio at the moment...

Because, yes, I am 16 years old. Why do you ask?

♫Sing along Saturday!!♫

What would you do if you suddenly became rich? Like RICH, rich. After hiring a tax attorney and a financial planner, put away $$ for the kiddo for school and such, set up a good retirement fund for me and the hubs, I know what I would do:

1. I would take my son out of school for the remainder of his high school time. I would hire him a tutor to take care of the necessary book learning to facilitate his getting the almighty high school diploma. However, I would take him traveling around the world for at least a year. I feel he would learn so much more about life than he ever would sitting in a classroom.

2. I would pay off all my bills. To be able to live debt-free would be so awesome!!! A clean slate.

3. I would pay off all my aunt and cousin's bills as well. They have taken care of my grandmother for years without ever asking anyone for any help (and I know my grandmother is a handful). And I would book them an awesome vacation.

4. I would pay off my mother's bills, and help her get her life situated. She has gotten herself into quite a situation with the cats. I would help her out of that, and put her into a nice retirement community for baby boomers.

5. Husbeast would do the same for his family, as well. Plus he wants to build and outfit a fire station in a rural town near here that is in serious need.

6. I would donate to all my favorite causes: ASPCA, Doctors Without Borders, Human Rights Campaign.

7. I would buy a new car for me. And a new vehicle for husbeast, and a car for the kiddo. My car is 10 years old. Husbeast's truck is 8 years old.

8. I would buy a nice Winnebago. My husbeast and I always wanted to retire and then travel all over the country. This would be a purchase for about 10-15 years from now.

9. I would decide where I REALLY wanted to settle down, and then purchase a piece of land and home there. And hire a maid and cook.

10. And I would continue to work. For sure. But having the luxury of working because I WANT to instead of because I HAVE to. Ahhhh.....

11. And I would want to do something like that man who goes around every year handing out $100 bills randomly to people on the street. Every time I hear about stories like that....oh my heart. <3

Think I need to buy a lotto ticket.

Spending the afternoon in the library with the kiddo researching a science project. Just what I wanted to do on my first day off of work. :P

Peace,

W. :)

Spending the day with my kiddo...

Yesterday, David was out of school for President's Day. We decided to do one of our favorite activities here in Kentucky. We went for a drive.

Lexington, KY is mapped out like a bicycle wheel.

All the roads converge in downtown, and there is a road that circles all the way around (New Circle Road). Taking this road you can his any one of the 'spokes' of the wheel. We decided to take Versailles (pronounced Ver-Sales, but don't get me started on that) Road. We like to go to the Historic Downtown areas of these cities. That is where you find the oldest buildings, and churches, and landmarks. All the charm. The newer areas are all the same: Kroger, Wal-mart, same fast food places, etc.

I did not take many pictures in Versailles, but here is what we did take:

That church is an old Catholic Church. It was built in the late 1800's, and was used until a new church was built in another location in the 1980's. Since then, this building was used as an auction house, a restaurant and office space. I would love to get an old church like this and make it into a home. Anyone got $550,000 I can borrow?

After our brief visit to Versailles, we headed over to another old, small city called Midway. This little town was so charming. The Main Street was split by a railroad track. The buildings were all colorfully painted, and well kept. Unfortunately, most of the businesses were closed either for the holiday, or they simply were not open on Mondays.

Standing at the end of the road by the caboose (see below) you can fit the entire downtown into one frame of film. Love it!!

This was the inside of the caboose.

And David with the caboose.

There was an old pharmacy that had an old-fashioned sandwich counter in it. I wish I had taken a photo. Or better yet, I wish I could have convinced my son to go in.

Finally, our journey took us to Frankfort, the Capitol. We stopped and had lunch at Big Boy's.

Then we drove around, and ended up in the "interesting" part of town in search of the historic areas. Plus, I had wanted to take a picture of the Health Department there that is located directly adjacent to a cemetery. But, that will have to wait until another day.

We went to the Peddler's Mall (kind of like a giant indoor group yard sale) and to the Goodwill for treasure hunting. We did not purchase anything, though I did find a plaid skirt I was dying over. But we did see this album cover, and had a good laugh:

And David found a hat, that I thought looks awesome on him:

I wear Stetsons now. Stetsons are cool.

Then last night, as it was a completely clear night with no moon, we drove out into the countryside to look at the stars. You can see Jupiter, Mars and Venus so clearly right now. And once we got away from the light pollution, it was gorgeous. Just us, the sky and the sound of a small creek flowing nearby. Peace.

Photo a day challenge update

Photo challenge updates first.

Day 18: Drink

This is my drug of choice. At work, I drink two of these a night. When not at work, I usually only drink soda while I am out. At home it is green tea or water. But there is nothing quite as good as a cold soda. Mmmmm.

Day 19: Something I hate to do

Cooking and laundry. Ugh! Hate to do both of those things. I think the cooking thing is just because I am the only one who does it in my house. It gets tedious day after day. Laundry, just because we don't have a washer/dryer in our apartment, which means we can't just toss a load in now and again. It is a weekly dragging everything across the complex chore. :P

Day 20, Handwriting

I shan't subject you to the chicken scratch that is my own handwriting. Instead, I present my husbeast's super neat writing. I found that after I became a nurse, my handwriting worsened markedly. I was writing so much on so many patients that it got terrible. Now I understand physicians' scrawl, and why it is like that. Now that most of my 'writing' is done via computer, it is not getting any better.

Day 21: A favorite photo of myself

This is me in kindergarten. After this picture was taken we all got to get pony rides. Now, I have a motto in life, and it hold's true until this day: Whatever stupid that is going to happen, it is going to happen to me.

When it was my turn for the pony ride, the put me up on the pony, and no one was holding his reins, and the dang horse took of running with me on the back. I held on for dear life to his mane, because that is all I had to hold onto.

Still, I love this picture. It marks a time before my life underwent a terrible upheaval.

I am giving tomorrow's prompt today, as I will be returning to work, and expect to be busy.

Day 22: Where I work

I have posted actual photos of my workplace, but this is where I work. While I love working with the babies, I am beginning to feel restless. This happens to me very often since I became a nurse. Right around 7-8 months working at a location, I start to get itchy for a new place or specialty. I begin to feel less challenged. And, to be honest, bored. I think it is time for me to start looking elsewhere in the hospital for a new specialty, or maybe return to working in mother/baby. We shall see.

Photo challenge: Day 16 & 17

After working three nights in a row, I am pleased to have six nights off!! Today is day two. Yesterday was vegetate day.

Tonight, there will be much Doctor Who is my household, as "The First Series" that I reserved for my son has finally arrived to the library.

Day 16: Something New

That is my new Doctor Hooo t-shirt that I just got on Wednesday. It portrays all eleven Doctors as owls. I love it. Got one for my kiddo, too. Here is a close-up of the artwork:

(from the Threadless.com website)

I particularly love #10. That is so David Tennant. My first Doctor was #4, way back in the late 70's. (Wow, where is my cane?)

Day 17: Time

That is my kitchen clock. Whatever....

W. :)

Fill in the blank friday

1. The love of my life is my husbeast.

2. Falling in love is a beautiful feeling. When everything is shiny and new. And you get to experience all your firsts together: first hug, first kiss, first dates and holidays, the first time you say, "I love you." When it is really right, those firsts become your last firsts. Sometimes, you get to fall in love with the same person more than once.

3. Marriage is at times wonderful, at times difficult. Happy and sad. Good and bad. In the end the happy and good have to outweigh the bad, and only one person can fall out of love at a time.

4. The longest relationship I've ever had was 20 years and counting. :D

5. The key to a good relationship is compromise, communication and laughter. If you can't do all three of those with your partner, you either need to learn it or get a new partner with whom you can.

6. I feel loved when we are just hanging out together, being comfortable in each others' company.

7. My favorite quote about love is "The course of true love never did run smooth." -William Shakespeare

Oh, the sweet nothings my husbeast says to me....

So, in my post about the love of my life, I forgot to mention the sweet greeting I got when I got home.

"Wow, you look tired. Is that vomit on your shirt?"

Looks down at spot on shirt. Yup, baby formula.

"Yes, yes it is."

"That's ok. I'll still have sex with you."

For my Valentine Haters......

W. :)

Day 14: Heart

The Husbeast scored some hubby points this morning. He left me the cutest card on my pillow when I got home from work. Now, let me preface by saying I married possibly the least romantic person ever. And he will be the first to admit that.

I forgot to take a picture of the back cover. It had a picture of two rocks and said "Me forgot one... Nice Boulders." Those compliments in the card are the exact words he usually uses to compliment me.

I have received flowers from him probably 5 times in the 20 years we have been together. Never will there be any surprise candlelight dinners, or rose petal strewn sheets. His idea of foreplay runs along the lines of "Wanna do it?" And our engagement story is one that probably shouldn't be mentioned in public.

However, he is a good husband. He is loyal, loving, helpful (in his own way) and generous. He keeps me laughing every day of my life, and while I want to kill him sometimes, I can't imagine life without him.

Photo challenge updates

Day 8: The Sun

Day 9: Front Door

Day 11: Happy

My family. Boy Child, Husbeast, Kitty and Pretty, and Bear with her head in her crotch. Ugh. Pardon my mess. This was during the weekend of sloth.

Day 12: Inside of my closet

Ok, so there is this light blue shirt with a patch on the sleeve....way over there in the back...everything behind that is my husbands and the stuff on the shelf immediately above . Everything else is mine. Not included: the 30 pairs of shoes that you can't see on the left side of the closet. I am shamed.

Day 13: Blue

W. :)

After a weekend of sloth.....

I return to reality.

I spent nearly my whole weekend on my sofa. I slept on it when I got home from work. And then the rest of the weekend was like this:

1:30 pm Woke up and took care of blog posting and groceries. :(
5:00 pm Bought pizza, and returned home.
6:00-11:00 Read magazines (Marie Claire & People) and perused some books I checked out.
11:00 Watched news. (Boring and depressing.)
11:30 SNL with Zooey Deschanel hosting. LOVE!!! Especially the skit of "Being Quirky with Zooey Deschanel."

Bein' Quirky with Zooey Deschanel

1:30 Bed or should I say sofa, as I fell asleep there.

Sunday:
8:00 AM Woke up, watched GMA weekend (Boring and depressing. Sorry, I do not feel sorry for people who have every advantage afforded to them, and then still choose to throw their lives in the trash.)
9:00 AM CBS Sunday Morning.
10:30-1:00 Napped. (It takes me a while to get my sleeping in order after working.)
1:00-6:00 PM Watched movies from Red Box. This weekend's selections were:

Both were very good. May have to purchase "Beginners" for my movie collection.

7:00 PM "60 Minutes" to watch Adele interview with Anderson Cooper.
8:00-11:30 PM The Grammys. (Huzzah, Adele!!)

It was AWESOME!!!

It's time for Sing-Along-Saturday!!

Let's take it back....way back. To a more innocent time in music.

And in case you are unsure when whipping it would be the appropriate action to take, I submit this:

And along the lines of "Whip It," I provide the trailer for one of my favorite movies (because I am still suffering from teenage angst, apparently.).

Oh, and I LOVE ROLLER DERBY!!!

W. :)

Fill in the blank Friday!

From:

1. I started my blog because I like to hear myself talk, apparently. Since I am still trying to find my blog-voice, it is a blog in transition. A place to express myself, but at the same time, I am unsure what I want this to be.

2. One thing I love seeing on other blogs people who are totally not afraid to be themselves. To be able to just put it all out there, and screw what anyone else may think....I want to be able to do that.

3. Something I love about blogging it gives me a voice. So often I am the quiet one. It wasn't always this way. I used to be much more gregarious. However, since finishing nursing school, moving away from my familiar work groups, and moving into a predominantly female workforce, I have become much more introverted. I have found that since I have started blogging again, I have slowly been coming out of my shell.

4. A favorite blog post of mine is probably not yet written. I have several in my old blog.

5. Something my friends in real life know about me that I've never before mentioned on my blog is my mother is a cat lady. Like, one day I fear she will be on tv.

6. My new favorite blogs to read are Scathingly Brilliant, Open Your Mind Before You Open Your Mouth, Busty Zombie Hookers From Space and It Oozes With a Smile. If I am really pressed for time, those are the four I am sure to check out. However, my blog reading varies from fashion, DIY, working on the internal stuff, kind of all over the place, really.

7. Some things I tend to avoid doing on my blog are criticizing others. However, I can tend to be very critical of myself. And that sucks.

Day 10

Well, looks like I know owe 2 days of photo's. No sun, no front door.

Here is the self-portrait. In Miami. Taken while on vacation.

So, I have obviously been off the grid for a minute. Got two extra days off from work, and I decided to go off-line for those days.

Tuesday, I went to see "Breaking Dawn PartI" at the dollar theater, and it was worth every penny. I would not have spent more than a dollar to see that. I spent a good portion of the movie muttering snide comments about it under my breath.

Like when she drank the blood for the first time and she goes, "That tastes..... (pause for dramatic effect)

my interjection: "Like a rusty nail."

"good."

Or when Edward is trying to save her life, I am telling him "No wonder she is dying, your CPR sucks!!"

Or when they deliver this 5 month old baby covered in strawberry preserves except for the obvious raccoon mask of cleanliness.

But, then, I am not allowed to watch medical dramas at home, either.

Day 7: Button

This is a button that I bought for my son. He is 15, so, you know, he is getting to 'that age.' We have been having versions of 'the talk' since he was about 7 or 8. And this is one of my strongest messages to him. It goes something like, "While you should wait until you are mature enough to handle the responsibility of sex, and the consequences that may come from it, above all else, if you decide to do it, be sure to use protection."

When we woke up this morning, there was no sun. So, I will be delayed on prompt # 8. Instead we had this.:

A wee bit of snow. It is nice that we finally got a decent snow fall, however, by noon it was all gone.

The husbeast and I decided to go on a morning hike at our favorite nature preserve, Raven Run.

In the spring, this will be a water fall.

It was a nice day out just the two of us. I fell on the trail, and if it weren't for a tree stump, I would have tumbles down the side of the hill we were on. Instead, I just got muddy knees, and a lot of laughter.

We went and had Mexican food for lunch, and then had a nice nap in the afternoon. All in all, a pretty perfect day.

W. :)
